چکیده
Methods We performed a prospective cohort study in HIV/HBV treatment-naïve coinfected patients taking care at “La Raza” National Medical Center, Mexico City. Patients were treated with Efavirenz or Lopinavir-ritonavir, each with tenofovir/emtricitabine plus pegylated interferon alfa-2b (1.5 μg/kg/week) or pegylated interferon alfa-2a (180 μg/week) during 48 weeks. HBV genetic analysis was obtained. The study had a primary measure of effectiveness assessed at 24 and 48 weeks of treatment: suppression of HIV RNA to levels below 50 IU/ml. Secondary endpoints were increased in CD4+ cells count, HBV DNA to levels below 60 IU/ml, HBeAg seroconversion (defined by the loss of HBeAg and the presence of anti-HBe antibody) and HBsAg seroconversion (defined by the loss of HBsAg and the presence of antiHBs antibody). Cumulative incidence with 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were calculated.

Efficacy and safety of adefovir dipivoxil plus pegylated interferon-alpha2a for the treatment of lamivudine-resistant hepatitis B virus infection in HIV-infected patients.
BACKGROUND Up to 10% of the HIV-positive population is coinfected with hepatitis B virus (HBV). Generally, combined treatment includes agents against both viruses, such as lamivudine (3TC). However, HBV resistance to 3TC is high. Adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) has shown its efficacy for treating 3TC-resistant (3TC-R) HBV in HIV-coinfected patients. ADV combined with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) has...

Coinfection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) is common among persons infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Treatment regimens based on standard interferon α (IFN α) and ribavirin (RBV) are recommended for chronic HCV, but they pose special concerns in patients coinfected with HIV, particularly those patients who are receiving antiretroviral therapy. Recently, several randomized stud...
متن کاملChallenges in the Management of HIV/HCV Coinfection
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a common comorbidity in HIV-infected individuals in the United States, with current estimates indicating that onefourth to one-third of HIV-seropositive patients are coinfected with HCV. Liver disease associated with HCV, as well as with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and other causes, is a significant and increasing cause of death in the HIV-infected patient popul...
متن کاملThe influence of HAART on the efficacy and safety of pegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy for the treatment of chronic HCV infection in HIV-positive individuals
OBJECTIVE This study was performed to investigate the impact of HAART versus no HAART and nucleoside free versus nucleoside containing HAART on the efficacy and safety of pegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy for the treatment of chronic HCV infection in HIV/HCV co-infected patients. In addition a control group of HCV mono-infected patients undergoing anti-HCV therapy was evaluated. METH...

The qPCR and RFLP analyses disagreed in two cases (7.7%), where the rs8099917 genotype was determined by RFLP to be TT and qPCR indicated that it was TG. We arbitrarily considered the qPCR results to be the gold standard for analysis. The prevalence of IL28B CC (rs12979860) in European patients was 46% 7 and for TT (rs8099917) the prevalence was 51.5%, 9 whereas in the present study, the freque...
